A prepreg is a composite material formed by impregnating continuous fibers or fabrics with a resin matrix under strictly controlled conditions; it serves as an intermediate material for the manufacture of composite products.

A prepreg is a semi-finished material widely utilized in the production of composite materials. It consists of reinforcing fibers and a resin matrix, wherein the fibers have been uniformly impregnated with resin but have not yet fully cured. Unlike traditional methods involving the on-site impregnation of dry fibers with resin, prepregs undergo the resin impregnation process at the manufacturing facility; consequently, they are characterized by uniform resin distribution and stable performance. During the manufacturing process, prepregs can be directly laid up and stacked, then molded via hot pressing or vacuum curing, thereby significantly enhancing the quality and consistency of the resulting composite products.

Prepregs exhibit excellent processing characteristics; the resin remains in a semi-cured state, ensuring that the material remains pliable during handling and cutting while simultaneously facilitating easy lay-up and molding within complex molds. Compared to traditional manual impregnation processes, the use of prepregs mitigates the risks associated with resin content fluctuations and void defects, resulting in final products that demonstrate superior performance in terms of mechanical strength, heat resistance, and fatigue resistance. In sectors such as aerospace, wind turbine blades, and high-end sporting goods, the inherent reliability and stability of prepregs have established them as a primary material of choice.
